Moon landing: What do you know about the Apollo 11 mission in 1969?

Almost 50 years ago, the United States managed to send the first human to land on the moon.

The sending of the Apollo 11 mission was a distinct moment in the history of the United States and in the history of the whole world. So what happened that day Why did the United States want access to the moon

The United States entered into a space race with the Soviet Union, after the Soviets launched, in 1957, the Sputnik satellite.

And when John Kennedy assumed the presidency in 1961, many Americans thought that their country would lose the technological race to its enemy in the Cold War.

In that year, the Soviet Union sent the first human being into space.

And then the Americans determined to be the first to reach the moon. In 1962 Kennedy delivered his famous speech, in which he said: "We have decided to go to the moon."

And the space race continued between the two countries. In 1965, the Soviets sent the first unmanned spacecraft to land on the moon.

? How did the Americans plan their mission

NASA devoted huge resources to a program that later became known as the Apollo program.

400,000 people worked on the 17 Apollo missions, with a budget of $25 billion.

Three astronauts were selected for the Apollo 11 mission: Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Michael Collins.

The command module and the lunar module, which will land on the moon, were placed on a powerful rocket known as the Stern V.

The plan was to use Earth's orbit to reach the Moon's orbit. Aldrin and Armstrong then board the lunar module and land on the lunar surface, while Collins stays behind in the command module.

? Did any glitch occur

The first manned orbital test vehicle, Apollo 1, was sent in 1967.

But during routine observations, disaster struck. The command module caught fire, killing three astronauts.

Manned spaceflight has been halted for several months.

In the Apollo 11 mission, there were communication problems with the control center on the ground, and an alarm that the astronauts had not seen before appeared on the computer.

The lunar module landed far from where it was supposed to land.

 Moon walk

Despite the obstacles encountered by the mission, on July 20, Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the surface of the moon. He was followed 20 minutes later by team mate Buzz Aldrin.

And the television transmitted Armstrong's historic words on the surface of the moon, saying: It is a small step for man, but it is a giant leap for mankind.

The two men spent more than two hours outside the lunar module taking samples, taking pictures and conducting scientific tests.

After completing the exploration mission, they returned the lunar module to the command module.

Then the journey back to Earth began, as the astronauts landed in the Pacific Ocean on July 24.

More than 650 million people around the world watched the moment the first man landed on the moon. Through that historic moment, the United States informed the world of its leadership in the space race.

And thus regained some self-confidence in this field after years of social and political turmoil in the country, as President Kennedy was assassinated, and several American cities witnessed protests on racial issues, and against the American war in Vietnam.

? How do we know the moon landing is real

The United States sent 6 manned spacecraft that landed on the moon until the end of 1972. But until now there are still allegations that this landing is not real, but rather a representation from NASA.

But NASA has a device orbiting the moon since 2009. This device sends high-quality images showing traces of Apollo mission exploration, such as the footprints of astronauts, as well as the tracks of the vehicle's wheels.

There is geological evidence for rocks brought back to Earth by astronauts.

? What is the use of going to the moon

The United States remains the only country that has managed to send a human being to the moon.

But Russia, Japan, China, India, and the European Space Agency have sent some devices orbiting the moon, or unmanned vehicles that landed on the moon.

And all that a country gets from accomplishing such a technological task is joining the club of the most developed countries in space science.

There are other reasons for countries to explore the moon, including the exploitation of its resources, such as gold, platinum, and other rare minerals. Although we do not know how easy it is to extract these minerals.
